We recently had the chance to film a promotional video for Joe Rockhead’s Women’s bouldering clinics located in Toronto. The clinics are the brainchild of Alison Sexton and Hillary Newkirk, members of Joe’s B team. The B team is a group of climbers of all levels that have emerged to train and climb harder together. Climbers are welcomed to meet up once a week and follow a designated training plan. The Women’s Bouldering series are an extension of this vision to encourage everyday climbers to reach new heights. The clinics are designed to help women improve their bouldering skills in an often male dominated sport, helping to break down stereotypes or possible fears that may have prevented them from participating in the past. Topics that are covered range from stretching (lead by City Yogis), bouldering techniques, to competitive climbing, making the sport extremely accessible to climbers of all levels. It has been a pleasure participating in these clinics and being part of a growing community of strong female climbers at Joe Rockhead’s climbing gym. It is always welcoming to see women encouraging each other, crushing hard and looking bad ass while doing it!
